THE PROCESS
Writers FAQ
WHEN IS THE PENDULUM PUBLISHED?
The Pendulum is published in print once in the fall, once in the spring; and online articles are published all year round.
WHO WRITES FOR THE PENDULUM?
Students at Clemson University, primarily. If you are interested in writing for or becoming involved with the magazine and are not a Clemson student, please email editor.thependulum@gmail.com and we will chat!
HOW DO I WRITE FOR THE PENDULUM?
At the beginning of Clemson University's fall and spring semesters, The Pendulum opens up for story submissions. During this 2-3 week window you can submit a brief article outline for the print magazine on an online pitch form. We then review the pitches and selects what we think to be the best articles for that semester's print edition.

Submissions for the website (this one) are accepted continually throughout both semesters. If you'd like to write for our online blog, get in touch with us at copy.thependulum@gmail.com!
WHAT HAPPENS IF MY STORY IS SELECTED FOR THE PRINT MAGAZINE?
First - well done! Next:
You will be assigned to an editor who will help you through the research and writing process
You will complete a detailed outline and multiple drafts of your article. Between each draft you and your editor will revise the structure and content of your piece
You will submit your story for final edits and publication, and then sit tight until the magazine release party!
WHAT TOPICS DOES THE PENDULUM COVER?
The Pendulum is an international affairs magazine; however, we mainly focus on events outside the United States. Our aim is to connect our readers and writers to important stories they will not have heard or seen covered in the mainstream U.S. news.
WHAT IF I HAVE NEVER WRITTEN A NEWS STORY?
This is your chance to give it a try! We are here to help you learn the research and writing processes. As long as you are willing to put in the time and give serious effort to your article, you will do fine.
